Rear suspension
The two types of rear suspension fitted to Beetles are not vastly different from each other —both have torsion bar springing — but their effect on the road-holding of the cars is! Earlier swing axle cars can, when pushed to the limit, be very difficult for anyone other than the most accomplished competition driver to control. Later cars with diagonal arm suspension are far better behaved.
